The last thing I want to do is make this veterans-only. Newbies are not only welcome, they are encouraged.

I really want to get involved. I've been longing to participate in a major story arc since arrival, and I'm glad to see you're getting back to the really involved roleplays (I wasn't here for WGT? parts one and two). What I've seen so far is very impressive, at that.

I won't risk Laykalar/WavesHaveBroken (he can cheer on from the sidelines, so to speak), but Bitterskin and/or SlowAndSteady might well get involved, if there's room for them. I know it might be hard, given that they're not exactly, well, assets... but I'm sure one or even both of them can eventually find a place?

I guess I'll need to establish more of a presence on the Mibbit, as well...

Please be advised that by “Kittens Rules,” I was not specifically referring to the character generation system from Who Goes There Pt. II. In the interest of Keeping It Simple (Stupid), we’ll will be working with a slightly more structured system that many of you are probably familiar with.

That is, it will be the Marvel Heroes Roleplay system.

For those of you who aren’t familiar with the system, MHRP Tabletop is a very simple system that encourages creativity over structure. It has very few moving parts, which means that a basic character sheet can be generated within minutes, combat’s as simple as rolling 3-5 die on an attack, and experience is gained by remaining in character and passing plot milestones. Resources on how to create character sheets can be found here. Entertaining examples of MHRP can be found here, examples of Marvel tabletop characters can be found here, and a template can be found here.

Those of you who are familiar with the system may wonder why we’re using such a system, since its “average characters” tend to be superheroes – and thus, hard to kill off. To answer your question, we’re using a modified version of the game, with some rather heady inspiration. Case in point:

XP will be limited.

Enemies will be statted accordingly.

Consumables and unlockables will be made available.

Intelligent RP will be rewarded accordingly.

Stress will become “injury tiers,” which will require appropriate acknowledgement. See: Spiza’s shattered arm, and how it affected his pursuit.

Finally, in the interests of budgeting time, energy and GM sanity, players will be able to create their own character sheets, with the following caveats:

No d12 stats. We will laugh at you.

No SFX’s that step stats up to d12 without absurd consequences. See my mock sheet for Dwick for an example of absurd, note that his d12 traits will only activate at extreme expense to the rest of the party, and understand that this is still edging on overpowered.

Any d10 Powers or Masteries must be justified. These abilities must be something your character is demonstrably good at, even by the standards of others.

I reserve the right to decline any submitted sheets. I will happily give feedback, suggestions, or references for edits, but as GM for this arc I have ultimate say over my threads.

Please use this thread to organize questions and character drafts. I will be away over the weekend, but I nominate Aphin and SteelUnifier to answer MHRP questions on my behalf (as they were both here to say yes when I asked them and because they’re familiar with the system).

Not sure just how big your player cap is, Spiz, but if there's still room in any stage of this arc, I'd love to get involved somewhere. I have a not so well conceived salarian character from the old boards I could bring back and modify, but if that feels like artificially lowering the stakes I'm prepared to put HardDrop on the line.

Though I suppose I should clear up first how tight the timescales on posting are. Is trying to co-ordinate across timezones going to be an issue? I have plenty of time to work on posts, that's not an issue. It's just difficult for me at the moment to guarantee I'll be free at a certain time (especially at night) until maybe a few hours ahead. If that's a roadblock to me playing, that's absolutely fair enough and I'll gracefully withdraw my application.

Kilas Valaron, AKA Kirova Eldon, AKA Maerot Telasurn, AKA TadpoleTech! I think I have the milestones sorted, but I'm a little confused as to the power sets, distinctions and specialties. And what the dice do. How is it so far?

Come to think of it, I should probably clear this up for myself as well. It's going to be impossible to be available late at night (no home computer; if I'm on CDN or the CDN chatroom, it's from work while on lunch break or at the library, and until I get a computer, that's how it's going to have to stay). My availability is going to be consistent, but restricted to specific times. If timing's going to be that important with the weekly RP sessions, we should probably discuss it at some point and sort out the details.

Very interested. At work atm so can't do a lot but voice my interest. Unfamiliar with the system but I'll try hitting up irc later. Can go either salarian Intel with Wenrum or drop in alongside sandy with hammerhead.

Of course, this means spending the weekend familiarizing myself with the system and the process of thingying with the doohickies in order to create the whatsit. This will be fun, humiliating and terrifying, likely in that order.

Echoing the query about the timing thing - I figured I'll be available late evening my time (UK), so I'd probably be OK, but if you're holding IRC sessions too late (unless it's a Saturday) I might not be about. I've gotta sleep some time, after all.

Here's hoping we can work something out, though - I'd hate to be excluded from an RP just because I live in the wrong time zone.

EDIT: 'Very simple system' and 'character sheet can be generated in minutes', my pretty little arse. This took hours. That said, any feedback or corrections for the sheet would be much appreciated - never done anything like this before and all that. :P
