CIPRITINE - Billions of hardplated gamers across the galaxy went into shock today as the head of Whiteout announced that, first the first time since the siege of Palaven, the servers that once hosted the massively popular Galaxy of Fantasy multiplayer game, are expected to be online by next month.

The catch?

“You’ll have to restart your character,” says Jani Vix, head moderator for the Valluvian server.

That’s right, fellow addicts. The servers were apparently destroyed and the data unrecoverable when Palaven was hit, and backup servers failed across the galaxy on their respective host worlds. Zillions of in-game credits, billions of characters, and innumerable hours of tedious grinding have been completely destroyed.

To compensate, Whiteout is offering five years of discounted subscriptions to new and old users, and 3 million in-game credits to each new character, and a new DLC add-on that promises dozens of new quests, a new level cap, and several ‘unexpected’ areas to open.

Extranet forums, blogs, Chipper and inter-relay chats have been ablaze as the gaming world reacted with flaming reviews and arguments. With Whiteout taking heavy personnel losses in the Reaper War, there are fears that the new generation of GoF developers aren’t up to the standards we expect from them.

For others, the anxiety is personal - one longtime user, known as VaniDreams, posted that, “Even if I recreate Vani, she won’t be the same character I’ve invested thousands of hours into telling a story with.”

Millions have echoed similar statements, as they wait on the edge of their seat for the release, scheduled for [Terran: December 15th].

Soooo...If I was gonna get into this game, would anyone be able to provide some starting tips?

Friend Jorgenson, I am thinking that perhaps the points of many other things have made a vigorous sojourn over the top of his fringe, for he is the worst poster on a board that is also including the hierarchy dad (which is like a transcension of the boundaries set forth in the palace of wisdom) and should take a most extensive vacation.

And there are people on Palaven who still can't tell the difference between their home and Korlus. Go practice your human indignation elsewhere.

The last time I even had the time to play GoF, God what was it, two years ago. I had a level 119 Arbitrator while Callius had a level 142 Techmancer.

Anyway, It's a sign life is starting to return to some semblance of normality from last year, so in my opinion, this is good news.

Well, this is certainly news. Restarting my characters will be sad, but hey! Discounted subscription AND a lot of in-game money to make up for something that was technically outside of their control? That's some decent customer service right there.

I'll have you know Korlus is quite attractive at the moment.

Only because it looks like less of a shithole compared to planets now than it did two years ago.

As for Galaxy of Fantasy? I'm 100% sure my job just got a lot easier, but I feel sorry for the staff working in our terminal rooms.

Starting from scratch won't be so bad. Playing a druidmage has kind of lost its appeal. Time for me to try another class....rogue, I think, could be fun.

Finally... Dammit. I don't have the time to play games that demand that level of time commitment anymore.

I never really had an inclination to try the game back before the war; not because it didn't look interesting, but because my schedule didn't exactly allow for it. But now that I'm less mobile, and find myself lacking things to do other than read or watch vids, I might give it a try. Might as well get in on the ground floor if everyone else has to start from scratch.

Hmm... I hadn't played since I was in my 70s... started when I was in my 40s.... Bit busy now... and it's been a while... is it still worth it?
