SkullKrusherKrogan wrote:Yeah, microsoft basically made Halo into a major cash cow.

SkullKrusherKrogan:

From our rules and guidelines:
9. Don't litter your posts with references to the 21st century. Obviously it's going to come up with historical discussions, but it's unlikely that someone alive in 2186 (or whatever year we're up to now) would have listened to Rebecca Black's Friday. It's also unlikely that you would be surfing TVTropes or Wikipedia. Mold yourself to the period. You can come up with period-appropriate equivalents to TVTropes, Wikipedia, or modern viral videos, but avoid straight up 21st century namedrops. Keep in mind, these new creations must be original. Creating an action hero series (like the Infiltrator) is fine. Making an action series starring an elcor named Ar'Nold Schwarz N'ejjar is right out.
To put this all simply, please do not reference Halo or really any other 21st century pop culture example, even if you append some ridiculously far off number to them. I mean, at the end of the day, it's pop culture, and disposable at that. It's hard to imagine it will survive nearly two centuries. As fun as the games may be, they're not exactly our era's Othello or Odyssey. It's a product, and defined by demand and existing trends. And like all products, will decline eventually as demand changes and trends shift. In fact, we can't even be sure if Microsoft is going to survive the next two decades, let alone the next two hundred years.

Most importantly, it's just sort of lazy. It's easy to say Call of Duty 205: Modern Warfare, it's harder to come up with N7 Code of Honour: Medal of Duty. But not unreasonably hard. This is a world so far past us in culture, technology, and scale and it's just silly to wink at the camera and declare how much fun you've been having playing Halo or Final Fantasy XXXII.

If you're not feeling up to being a bit creative, no one's really gonna tell you off if you phone it in a bit. At the end of the day, Devil Bojangle: The Knightening is gonna be a better title than Star Wars Episode 98. And it took me three ill-thought out seconds to write that down. Don't feel like you have to come up with anything aside from a name, either. Roleplaying is a collaborative experience after all, in nearly all aspects.

Furthermore, think about it like this - how much legacy pop culture can you honestly claim to enjoy that emerged around a hundred and seventy five years ago. How much of it exists? I doubt you'd be able to bring up much any examples.

Remember to keep this all in mind. There's even a resource being established by our players regarding tips, hints, advice, and 'taboos' on the boards. And again, if you're ever unclear on a rule or what's expecting on CDN, feel free to talk to any of us on IRC. You may also contact us if you request a PM account in this thread. We are regularly checking our inboxes and on the old boards can be contacted under the names Weishaupt, Putnam, Morrigan, Marduk, and Stormbringer.

With this all out of the way, this is an official warning that this sort of thing is to be avoided on CDN. Please edit your post accordingly - if you're really drawing a blank on what to replace it with, remember that there's already an existing 'shooter' game in the ME universe (established by BioWare even) - N7 Code of Honour: Medal of Duty.

Thanks.

He's 42 (it was 42, wasn't it? 40-something) - okay, he's not going to be challenging for Clan Leader any time soon (don't take that the wrong way Dagin, leadership is an elder's pursuit, enjoy being young), but he's plenty old enough to know about the bysars and the blids, and where to get a grip, and all that sort of thing. (He should be anyway, I've met some krogan who are remarkably bemused by the latter, when it's really not that ha- difficult.) How do you think krogan ever managed to pass their genes on on pre-tech Tuchanka, if they had to survive half a century of everything trying to eat them before they could get down to business?

Besides, it's a really good porn game. :) And what's wrong with porn games anyway?

Nothing wrong with it, I like it, I even got a special achievement for "romancing" the three drell siblings at the same time (lots of trial and error for that).
I may have just misjudged the ratio of maturity for krogans.

Somehow the fact that you corrected your innuendo mid word only made it funnier. Citadel XXX is a very good game though, totally recommend it.

Also on a less porn-y note, get Dead Silence. It's a first person survival horror game with stealth and puzzle elements. Made by PhantomTech who produced The Abyss, which was also a first person survival horror game with stealth and puzzle elements. They might not switch up their genres much but they're pretty good at what they do.

Oh damn. I wonder when was the last time I actually sat down to play a VI game... Must be like a year or something. Few matches of Armored Fury: Delta Unknown would be soooooo good right now, but if there are any servers left in the galaxy... Citadel might have a few local ones.

Okay, I'll get some of the games you suggested. I have a feeling I'll like Combined Arms. Is it an MMOFPS?

It's an MMOFPS, RTS, vehicle simulator, and Operational Level strategy game rolled in to one.

Basically, think Planetside 2, ARMA 2, Wargame European escalation, DCS, and Hearts of iron rolled into one game and made an MMO.

That sounds epic. Anyway, 2 questions: 1, is the violence realistic, and 2, is there a melee attack that can crush skulls?

Combined Arms...reminds me of this other game I tried. Shakedown Run, this combat sim about walking tanks. It's online and the controls are really complicated. Buggy though-once I accidentally hit the command to drop weapons at the start of this match so I had to just run into guys.

I'm better at Shakedown Run though, I swear.

This may be not a new one but I used to be totally into fighter sims at one point (turian family history...) and there is one that stuck, Wings of Palaven. Granted, it is not brand new anymore but the fact that it is so easily modable, offers you a world of add-on fighters, often made by the community for free, turian, asari, batarian, salarian... also human.

You'll need a holo-chair to enjoy it really though but if you like combat sims, this is the one that got me attached to it over all the years. The physics are realistic but still managable without being a real pro pilot, it is not getting frustrating. The options allow to build your own mission settings or you can download free addons from fan sites. I am pretty sure, a lot of it is still around on the extranet.

White-Eyes I like puzzles. They have solutions.
Anyone here play any fighting games? If so I've got Iron Roar 3: Tournament of Fate, Occult Academy 2: Night Class of Doom , and War on the Streets 3: EX Hyper Special HD Championship Super Edition. If anyone is up for a math, let me know!

The first is a Tekken/Bloody Roar type of fusion, as both are serious-ish combo focused 3D fighters. The second is a Darkstalkers/School Rivals mix, as both are special fest stylized 2D fighters with dynamically designed characters. The last one is Street Fighter, cause what else could get away with so many freaking remakes?

Prior to the Reaper War, I was a big fan of those very much borderline racist shooters that human and turian companies brought out where the basic aim was to shoot as many four eyed people as possible. They were hilarious.

Hilarious how? Low budget, bad writing, that sorta thing?

I had this shooter once that was supposed to be this one telling both sides of the Relay 314 Incident and they had a cast of fifteen or more characters all told, with a cast of who knows how many other nameless guys.

They only had like three voice actors to split across ALL those roles and had nothing but stock music.

Dramatic war story, completely wasted. They tried claiming it was a satire of sappy historical war dramas a few years after its release. That went over as well as you'd expect.
