Congrats, we've finished our first action scene, exploded Space Olive Garden, and reached our first transition scene.
That means we can bring in new characters. So if you're on the citadel and interested in participating in the plotline, feel free to approach me with how you want to enter the Transition. Next action scene will be primarily social and tech, as a heads up. [R] information services, business accepted over private communicae. |

Sorry for the thread necromancy, but people keep asking how the sheets work, so I'll try to post some explanation here. Feel free to correct me.
Bintar's sheet First thing is the stress. That's the way you get damaged. It's counted on dices d4, then d6, d8, d10, d12, after d12+ you're stressed out (off the fight) and start getting trauma (which can prove lethal). Physical is the most common one that you get from fighting, mental you get if you're losing a debate or argument, emotional is stuff like despair. Affiliations show if your character work better alone, in a duo or in a team. You distribute the D10, D8 and D6 depending on where you feel he's better suited. Distinctions are things that make your character special. You can use them as D8 or you can choose to use one only as D4 and get a Plot Point. Specialties you don't choose, they're from this list : Combat, Acrobatics, Psych, Menace, Crime, Command, Science, Tech, Covert, Buisness and Biotic, D8 if you're an expert, D10 if you're a master, D12 for godlike. Then you have one or two powersets, it's the groups of powers of your character, a bit like majors. That's where you choose your powers. I'm not sure how many dices we get for those powers so I kind of copied them from someone else. The SFX are special powers that you can use, usually by spending PPs. A list is present here, the trick is to adapt them to fit your character. The limits are like SFXs that work against you (but they get you PPs. Here is a handy list of them, along with some more SFXs. At last milestones are the way you get XP. 1xp is something that happens very often, 3xp happens around once per scene, 10xp is very rare and represents a huge change in your character's development. Often activating it will result in the creation of a new one. For a roll you pick a dice in each categories (affiliation, distinctions, specialties, powersets). Having a broad range of power is good, it allows you to use 4 dices in as many situation as possible. Having two powers that do the same thing is useless. Again this is only my limited understanding of the system, and I'll edit this post when I get corrected, or if someone find a clearer way to explain the concepts. Slaves4Us is here to help you! Mostly correct, specialties are only expert and master though. No Godlike.
Having two powers that do the same thing can be useful, many characters have SFX or Limits that will depower or shut down powersets, and powers can be targeted to be shut down. In addition, there are some SFX that let you use multiple dice from a power pool, or add a dice after the fact. Finally, you're not limited to those limits and SFX. They're good guides, but you can invent stuff and run it past me. [R] information services, business accepted over private communicae. |

Palmer, you do realize that your build fails the Norman Osbourne Build Test in every way possible, right? Right.

In terms of the Norman Osborn Build Test you actually outgear the RAW Green Goblin and measure up around (slightly higher than, mathematically speaking) the Iron Goblin that I designed for my party of min-maxing one-shotting lunatics to fight.
e: I think what we've learned from Fisher Krogan's experiment is that people who want to play MHR should do chargen the same way as people who actually play MHR, by choosing a sheet that somebody else made for them. |

e: I think what we've learned from Fisher Krogan's experiment is that people who want to play MHR should do chargen the same way as people who actually play MHR, by choosing a sheet that somebody else made for them. That would be ideal Zoftan but I don't think poor havocfett can really do sheets for everyone on CDN. Another possibility would be to say how much dice we get for a FNG, expert or master character. It's pretty hard to balance those when you've never played and you don't have the rulebook. Also if I'm not mistaken you can fuse two dices into a higher dice (peaking at D10) or split a dice into two lower ones no? Slaves4Us is here to help you! Only under specific circumstances. Merging dice is possible if you have the Focus SFX and you're using two equal-sized dice in a single action's pool. Dice-splitting can only be done with specialties. Personally, I houserule both of these into being possible for the doom pool, for expediency in doom dice usage. |

Yeah but I meant can we do it at the creation of our character? Instead of having two powers D8, having one D10?
Again this question makes only sense if we have the number of dices acceptable for a new character of a given power range. Slaves4Us is here to help you! Quantifying character attributes into a single unified power level is difficult because the mechanics serve the narrative rather than the other way around. You can basically hammer any peg into any hole, so to speak, as long as you can justify the action, which makes a ton of different ridiculous playstyles viable.
Example: Amadeus Cho and Elixir both have a single die in their powersets. Jamie Madrox has a single power represented by three dice, and the Punisher has two. All of them, however, have a ton of SFX that synergize with their powers to provide lateral options. This is very difficult to quantify because how do you establish a system of ranked synergy? You can't. You'd have to base it off potential interactions and the competence of the player, which 1) varies wildly and 2) is subjective. This is why the actual MHR datafiles are done by committee - MWP has a whole team of people working to ensure balance and playability to the point where, in the hands of intelligent players, the Punisher is as effective as the Hulk. However: if you absolutely must have some kind of arbitrary baseline number for character creation, you can try this. It's a bad idea and will not be accurate, but you can try it. Ignore SFX altogether (this is why it's a bad idea and will not be accurate). It might theoretically be possible to give each SFX a specific value but that would ignore, once again, that different SFX work better for different characters. Take every power and specialty die in your sheet (not your affiliation dice, put those down) add their values together, and then divide it by the number of dice. Now you have your SIPLSTFD Rating (it stands for Stupid Inaccurate Power Level System That Foureyes Demanded). For scaling purposes, an example: Howard the Duck - 7.60 Spider-Man - 8.13 Bullseye - 8.25 The Norman Osborn Threshold - 8.67 The Incredible Hulk - 9.75 Sentry - 10.17 Doctor Doom - 10.86 |

Ok I see your point. For the record I did not so much demanded as suggested.
So should we keep as we were, the player try to do his sheet and Havoc balance it? Slaves4Us is here to help you! Contact us with your need, and we will fulfill them in no time! Naturally, I took this as a challenge. I had some free time today, so I took the opportunity to redesign Palmer's character sheet from the ground up, mostly as a thought experiment but I figured it'd be a good idea to show the rest of you guys too. You can look at it here. I encourage you guys to look at both of the Palmer sheets and compare/contrast.For a point of comparison, let me show you guys what Captain America's dice (by Marvel's reckoning, a literal supersoldier) look like: Powerset 1: d8, d8, d8, d6 Powerset 2: d8, d12 |
