While I've already privately expressed my interest in things, let me put up my sheets for the sake of openness.

All right. The Bar Raid shall commence as of about 6:00 PM CST. In the meantime:

Rules for Rainfall

There will be two phases in Rainfall Threads: Combat and Transition.

Combat Phases

Combat threads are where you will use your MHRP sheets, but in order to keep track of the dice rolls, you will need to roll them in an IRC chat channel I have created specifically for this game:

If you have never used IRC Chat before, please read this thread for instructions on how to get on. In the meantime, if I am away, don’t worry. Just roll as you would during your turn in combat. I will be maintaining a chat log for the channel, so that I can see your dice rolls and vice versa.

Because we are all working in different time zones, there will be no set time during my workday (CST). As such, there will be no set play order; people will post whenever they can, then wait for my response to post again. (I repeat, only post once between GM posts during Combat.) Playtime is expected to pick up during the evenings, so if you plan to make a move, make sure to get it in before then or we will move on without you.

When rolling in #Rainfall , use the server’s dice-rolling mechanic by typing in “#roll X[1dY],” where Y is the number of sides on the dice you’re rolling and X is the number of times you’re rolling it. For example, if I were to use Spiza’s Buddy Affiliation (d8), Only Sane Man Distinction (d8), Saboteur Power (d8), and Covert Expert Specialty (d8) in an attack, I would type “#roll 4[1d8]” and press Enter. The server will then return the number of dice rolls you rolled.

Alternatively, you can simply type “#roll 1dY” for as many rolls as you’re using. It will mean sifting through more lines of text when figuring out your attack values, but it may be simpler to type for you.

Be sure to declare any the traits involved with your attack, along with SFX, PP usage, the total attack for your turn, and the effect die. Also remember to declare PP usage on your turn only. Combat will be wonky enough without a PP tug-of-war; the last thing we need is a repeat of Godthab Omega (consult SteelUnifier and Abad for details).



Stresses

Stresses are defined as tiers of injury, and will be scaled by species in terms of harm to a human body (krogan and vorcha, I’m looking at you). To give you a rough guideline, here is what Physical Stress translates to under this system:

d6 Stress is like being punched in the face. It’s going to leave a mark, but what hurts most is your pride.

d8 Stress is where it gets serious. It’s akin to being nailed with a concussion grenade or getting your arm slashed. You’ll need medical attention at some point, and maybe it’s a bad idea for you to go Fihgtan Battels in your condition.

d10 stress is more serious still. Here, you’re suffering broken bones, severe burns, cryo shock, or nasty toxins. Hospital stays are no longer needed, they’re mandatory.

d12 stress is permanent, lasting physical damage, such as a shot to the gut or the loss of a limb. By some whim of fate, you’re still able to fight, but not for much longer – if you suffer another blow, you move into Life-Threatening Scenarios.

d12 Stress should permanently affect your character. Think of it as a massive turning point in their life, where they must reconcile with their near brush with death and all the consequences it brings.


Life Threatening Scenarios

Life-Threatening Scenarios, referred to as Trauma in MHRP, are BAD. Moving into Life-Threatening Scenarios is exactly what it sounds like - it can and will kill your character.

When your character reaches d6 Trauma, s/he is officially out for the count. S/he may be able to talk, but that’s about it - nothing stated will have the weight to cause Emotional or Mental Stress. Unless s/he receives healing immediately, s/he will slip into d8 Trauma.

d8 Trauma is the last bastion of health. The character is unconscious, unable to take the pain of his/her injuries. Failure to heal your character while in this state will send them to d10 Trauma.

d10 Trauma is character death. You will be perfectly able to RP out the consequences of your character’s death, but after that, it is over.

d12 Trauma is basically atomization. This can only happen as an action of catastrophically poor judgment, comparable to attacking Commander Shepard on galactic holovision, debating Artistic Integrity with a Banshee, or standing in front of Harbinger’s cannons without Plot Armor.

Transition Phases

Unlike Combat Phases, Transition phases are straight-up RP between characters. They’ll be used for briefing, debriefing, description scenes, and noncombat sections of Rainfall. During this time, you will not need your MHRP sheets, save for noting milestones that you accrue. Please note that you may accrue 1 XP milestones within reason – if you’re picking them up every post, I may cut you off until we re-evaluate your character sheet. Meanwhile, 3 XP milestones can be picked up once per Phase. 10 XP milestones may only be activated once; after that, it will be replaced.

Stresses step down automatically by one during transition scenes, to reflect the abundance of Medi-Gel in the post-Reaper War Mass Effect Universe.

Ahahahahahahaaaa. Best team ever. This is gonna be awkward for Mekan.

I can finagle a reason for Mekan to be on the Citadel if necessary; he might not be advertising his movements, but it doesn't mean he's not doing anything. Maybe he's in the neighborhood for an electronics expo or something, I'unno.
