CRA to Research Methods of Transporting Citadel

For over a year, scientists have pondered over how the Reapers managed to transport the Citadel from the Serpent Nebula to Earth’s orbit during the final days of the Reaper War. Theories range from basic estimates of eezo required to alleged "secrets" the Citadel has kept hidden since the Council’s foundation.

Today, the Citadel Research Association announced the formation of an official committee of both Council and non-Council species to begin investigation, research, and analysis of how the Citadel was transported to Sol, and whether such a feat can be duplicated.

The CRA is expecting such an endeavor will likely last years, if not longer, before any meaningful findings could be published. This has earned criticism from other members of the scientific community, including the Hierarchy Science Bureau and the Alliance Scientific Research Committee. ASRC member Dr. Julian Yasgur in particular argued that the CRA’s project “is spending time, resources and minds on a frankly meaningless project.”

Responding to Dr. Yasgur's comments, CRA member Dr. Yilea Nareni stated that “[the Reaper war proved] even the Citadel is not impenetrable in time of crisis. On top of that, there is so much about this station that we have yet to truly explore. If we can figure how the Reapers managed to do this, perhaps we can find other secrets along the way...and should another war break out, we’ll be ready.”

Huh...I figured they could have just dragged the Citadel through a Mass Relay with enough man power. Or does that work? What happens if you drag something behind a ship through a mass relay?

Remember that you're talking about moving a metropolis weighing over 7 billion tons out of Earth orbit and through a series of mass relays. Brute-forcing it would require truly staggering amount of either fuel or eezo.

Given that the new relay network is being designed with Earth as the central node, what would be the practical purpose of moving the Citadel now?

I believe the term is "eggs in one basket?"

Faintly incredulous, tinged with mockery: While your ambition is certainly commendable, Mr. Skhash, haste is never productive in matters of such importance. I would like to believe the Council is smart enough to keep three feet on the ground here.

Self-reflectively: Perhaps there's something to be said for building a legacy...

Who said anything about haste? It took over a year after the war was over before the "committee" was even formed.

I can imagine how useful this would have been during the war.

If say the Reapers ever revert to their previous function, or God forbid, there's some other race of ungodly power here or outside the galaxy, having the Citadel be a mobile command center would be essential.

I mean, it's common sense that we should be looking into this kind of stuff, yeah? We know next to nothing about the Citadel, and the war proved how deadly that could be. Time we figured out just what keeps this ship afloat.

Ten credits says we're going to see a lot of vids with the Citadel converted into a mobile ultradreadnought or something in the future.

Don't even joke about that, man.

I'd take that bet. Just slap loads of guns and missile banks on the outside, it'll be great.

It's probably too much to hope, but maybe the Reapers will just move the Citadel back for us. They took it to Sol, so you'd think they were capable of putting it back.

That being said, I really don't like the idea of leaving all our problems to be solved by things which might try and kill us all again.

This one believes that the Citadel should be moved back to its rightful place in the Serpent Nebula.

Personally, I'm with the hanar, probably not for the same reasons though.

I just think it's probably not the safest thing to have an enormous fucking space station above any planet. Some crazy might try to drop it.

Either way, it'd be nice to know how to safely move it around. If nothing else, it could serve as a monster carrier during times of war. Remember how one of those Reapers easily fit inside it back in 2183? Now imagine that, instead of one of them, you had a whole host of fighters or even a complement of carriers.
