If you're looking for something to generate NPCs for your plots, or perhaps want a new character with unexpected twists for challenge, this sheet here should be useful to you.
RIGHT HERE How to use this sheet then? First off, start with generating your base attributes. There's seven of them, and they should get values between 5 and 15. Here's one internet dice roller. You'll get values within the wanted range with a 1d11 5 roll. From there, start picking (or rolling dice) the species, allegiance, career and traits of your liking. For sake of balance, pick both negative and positive traits. NOTE: The attributes' values are there for your guidelines in regards to the character's interactions. Guy with a diplomacy of 4 would be blunt as a brick in his dealings with others, while a scheming of 20 would mean he's blunt as brick with words but one heck of a plotter. Here's an example character. Let's say I want a henchman for Hawt Dawg's mining operations.
For his base attributes I rolled... Diplomacy: 4 + 5 = 9 Fighting: 2 + 5 = 7 Scheming: 9 + 5 = 14 Credibility: 5 + 5 = 10 Wisdom: 8 + 5 = 13 Economics: 4 + 5 = 9 Innovation: 10 + 5 = 15 Right now, the henchman isn't too good talker or fighter, but he's good with less honest plots, pretty okay for reputation, average IQ. Bit lackluster with cash, so he's not going for CFO position, and has lots of ideas per his max initial innovation. But let's go on with the chart... I want to be random for fun here now, so I'll roll the species. There's 13 choices there, so let's roll a d13. I got a six, so that's...asari. They get +2 Diplomacy +1 Wisdom -3 Innovation so new stats will be Diplomacy: 4 + 5 + 2 = 11 Fighting: 2 + 5 = 7 Scheming: 9 + 5 = 14 Credibility: 5 + 5 = 10 Wisdom: 8 + 5 + 1 = 14 Economics: 4 + 5 = 9 Innovation: 10 + 5 - 3 = 12 We got into the nice and smart diplomat side but lost some innovation here. Next up is allegiance. Let's roll that for giggles too. I rolled 2. That means Terminus nations. So our secretly Cerberus CEO's henchman asari hails from there and gets one point of innovation back, but takes a credibility hit for coming from such unsavoury and unstable region of space. Diplomacy: 4 + 5 + 2 = 11 Fighting: 2 + 5 = 7 Scheming: 9 + 5 = 14 Credibility: 5 + 5 - 1 = 9 Wisdom: 8 + 5 + 1 = 14 Economics: 4 + 5 = 9 Innovation: 10 + 5 - 3 + 1 = 13 Alright, career time! Since we're looking for a crook's sidekick, I'll just go for the criminal careers section right away. I've got a choice between muscles, thieves and revolutionaries. Dicetime again! 3 it gave to me, so the last criminal career path it is. It has five steps on it, so back to the dice I go...to have number 1 show up on them. Well, can't win every time, right? That meaning, she's just a miscreant at the moment. Asari maiden playing criminal, right? One more point to innovation and yet another away from credibility and economics this time. Diplomacy: 4 + 5 + 2 = 11 Fighting: 2 + 5 = 7 Scheming: 9 + 5 = 14 Credibility: 5 + 5 - 1 - 1 = 8 Wisdom: 8 + 5 + 1 = 14 Economics: 4 + 5 - 1 = 8 Innovation: 10 + 5 - 3 + 1 + 1= 14 So, our asari maiden from the Terminus playing crooks isn't so wealthy anymore, nor is she credible. Perhaps she needs some more decades of work before people take her seriously, hm? We're at our last stop in the character generation now, TRAITS! They come in good and bad ones (although negative traits can actually benefit more sometimes, and some good traits just make you worse). I'll pick two of each with my trusty dice. 2. Disciplined (+1 Fighting -1 Innovation) 10. Persistent ( +1 Economics, +1 Diplomacy) and 15. Vengeful ( +1 Fighting, - 2 Diplomacy) 20. Violent ( +1 Fighting, - 2 Credibility) Diplomacy: 4 + 5 + 2 + 1 - 2 = 10 Fighting: 2 + 5 + 1 + 1 + 1= 10 Scheming: 9 + 5 = 14 Credibility: 5 + 5 - 1 - 1 - 2 = 6 Wisdom: 8 + 5 + 1 = 14 Economics: 4 + 5 - 1 + 1= 9 Innovation: 10 + 5 - 3 + 1 + 1 - 1= 13 Looks like our maiden had a grudge for someone...Violent but disciplined grudge, and she's persistent. Well, there are our guidelining stats for an asari henchwoman! This is the time where I'd go work on some more background using these character traits and attributes as my baseline, but as it was just an exercise, I'll leave it here. I hope you'll find this useful! "Who controls the past controls the future: who controls the present controls the past." - George Orwell |
