Hoshi was designed as a one-off by a small VI development firm trying to create more sophisticated personality imprints for more natural user-VI interaction. The idea then came about to develop her further and give her a robotic frame to house her important systems and have her act as a synthetic assistant with the hopes of developing her into a consumer model, presumably marketed to those who have seen a few too many animated serials. Her unique design and a series of viral videos highlighting her interaction with the staff soon increased interest in her design, making her the first of a new, but still rare, model of ostentatious assistant called the Pleiades. She was soon purchased by Salarian entrepreneur Garut Etin, who was reportedly looking for "fresh faces" for his latest venture. After her departure from the firm, the marketing groups her development firm hired on don't seem to catch on to the fact that her kind was an exclusive, somewhat impractical model, proudly proclaiming that they "...slice, dice, chop and conjugate verbs."With advertising flops like that it's wholly likely Hoshi will stay part of a rare breed. A shame too, since a synthetic assistant with omni-tools installed in both forearms and enough processing speed to use them could be an enormous asset for a creative owner.
