Less than two months after conclusion of the first post-war elections, the unified people of Rannoch have reached another historic milestone: early prognosis indicates that Spera’Tal vas Rannoch, barely a day old, will live the rest of her life without the confinement of an envirosuit.

Named after the Khelish word for ‘hope’, Spera’Tal was born without complications after an eight-month period of examination and in-utero therapy from the Rannoch Division of Special Projects. Subsequent tests revealed that her baseline allergic reaction to nonsterile substances was only slightly inferior to a turian’s. “Nothing I could say would do justice to this feeling,” said Maia’Tal vas Rannoch, fresh from maternity decontamination, at the Special Projects announcement this morning. “To know that my child will grow up without the problems that plagued the quarians forever, and that a whole generation will follow her...considering what it means for our people, ‘Spera’ was really the only name we could’ve chosen.”

Special Projects member Raeda’Carr vas Lemwill, head of the research team behind Spera’Tal’s development, extolled both the scientists and the tech that made the project possible. “None of this would have been possible without a united Rannoch,” she stated to the press, alongside Executive Researcher Telesis. “Our expertise and technological prowess, along with those of the geth, have made it possible for us to someday leave these suits behind, and for future generations to never need them at all. Through the geth, we can clearly see the future of the quarian people.”

Admiral Quorum, representing the Admiralty at the presentation, declined to comment beyond stating that Carr’s assertion was ‘demonstrably correct’ and that Spera’Tal’s birth was ‘an historic occasion for the people of Rannoch.’

Well...what can I say? However you slice it, this is big news for my people. To think, a couple generations from now, our people may no longer need envirosuits to walk around the homeworld. And for the geth to be willing to step in and help...it won't solve all our differences in the present, but, its a long step towards trying to clean up our own blood-soaked history.

Hmmm, I wonder where quarian fashion is going to go once the suits are gone? I figure it'll probably start out being radically different as a reaction, but I'd bet after that pseudo-environment suits might actually get popular.

...I wasn't expecting this.

I mean, I like the geth just fine and appreciate what they're doing for us, and I guess I should have figured they'd be working on this, but... The implications are pretty staggering. The current generation may never be whole, but our children will be running through the fields with the fresh air on their faces.

This one was feeling less than engaged with its studies tonight, and its mood has been pleasantly buoyed by this article; not only due to what the breakthrough discussed within means to the quarian people, but for how it deftly illustrates the fundamental truth that insight and illumination regarding one's own people arises from the attention and interest of others. The geth are synthetic, yet this one believes they demonstrate the desire and motive to investigate the commonalities and distinctions between disparate sapients with grace befitting that of any organic. While this one must consult its Learned Betters aboard ship to truly comprehend the spiritual nature of the geth, its understanding is that their actions point to comprehension of metaphysical realities, which they then submit to a most admirable degree of introspection! It pleases this one to see the output here. As the ocean bed depends for its nutrients on marine snow descending from the livelier waters above, so too does the desire to better the spiritual understanding of our races have positive effect on the more mundane physical reality. Through the geth's willingness to seek understanding the galaxy arrives at medical breakthroughs increasing quality of life for the quarian. This one is happy indeed to see how readily Rannoch has embraced its most important lessons!

I think a better implication for this event is that a new generation of quarians may be born without a pathological desire to whine and "bitch" about their lives. We all live in hope.
