Citadel Daily Report
CDR, THESSIA.

The Citadel Council today announced the formation of the Thessian Escort and Reconstruction Force (TERF) A joint taskforce set to provide naval and ground security in the Parnitha system. This comes as a response to the wave of piracy that has plagued Thessian eezo production and export in recent months.

The naval part of the taskforce is the newly formed carrier group ERITREA. Providing support to the Asari navy, with the newly constructed Alliance carrier PICASSO serving as it's flagship and the Turian cruisers TRAMENNIS and CORINTHUS as well as the Salarian frigate squadron LETENT serving as escorts.

Ground assets includes several turian, alliance and salarian battalions drawn from emergency response reserves based on their respective homeworlds. Also participating will be several Citadel based, charity, non-govermental organizations like Intergalactic red cross, Lifebearers, orphans of war and the Templars. These will be tasked with providing ground security and relief on some of the more exposed refineries and settlements on thessia.

The move has drawn criticism from several military analyst claiming that the move weakens the preparedness of each of the participants military forces in a time of unease and reconstruction. The council assures that the impact of the taskforce formation will be minimal and that their mission will be a short one, providing eezo security in this critical time after one the most devastating conflicts in our history.

I think it will mostly be jokes about how the asari are terrible at doing anything to protect themselves.

On the Move.

PrayerForTheDamned You know what sucks about being in space?

NOTHING!
OK, so critics are worried about stability when a task force is being sent to protect eezo shipments. You know if eezo supplies get disrupted I'd be willing to bet there would be stability problems. As a matter of fact, isn't fighting pirates supposed to be one of the biggest peace time tasks for the fleets?

Ah well, maybe my ship's captain will get a little more relaxed if this operation works.

My coworkers are evidently idiots. :(

It's an upgunned squadron, it's not going to be a major blow to military prep. And frankly? Losing that much eezo is far more damaging, long term, because it both slows reconstruction and gives pirates eezo. Even if they're just selling it back at markup, that's an enormous amount of resources drained away to belligerent third parties.

In addition pan-governmental exercises are precisely the sort of thing we need now to rebuild faith in the idea of the citadel as an effective, trans-governmental alliance that can work together effectively.

Yes, in fact, it is. Combatting Piracy both serves as relatively low risk (unless you decide to use manned fighters), high publicity operation that generates plenty of goodwill and protects the economy. It's a vital role of a peace time fleet, and one that is very useful at giving troops combat experience when there isn't a war going on.

Not that we're short on veterans at the moment.

oh right, when the reapers came they basically said: naaaaah. But when a few pirates trouble us they come with carriers and whatnot. This stinks.

Custodian
Shame. Unlikely as it might have been I was half hoping they'd be forced to hire groups to protect shipping lanes or act as escorts.
Then again they'd probably have gone to the Eclipse first if they ever did.

Uh what? Joint task force-a tiny one in the scheme of things isn't occupying your goddamn homeworld. It's just to look good and say 'hey, we're doing something about the eezo situation'. Not 'bwahahaha, we're going to steal teh asari homeworld!1!' Your military is in a bad state and can't replenish its losses as quickly as a human or turian military can, because it takes so long to train your soldiers. It's nothing to be ashamed of, asking for a bit of help-it's nothing compared to what the Alliance was forced to do during the war to survive as an entity.

I'm trying not to think about that. Though the apocalypse is an excellent politicl excuse. Sure there has to be someone with brains in the SA's PR department.

Right?

So showing that the council is willing to take strong actions against piracy instead of just rolling back is seen as a sign of weakness? Great analyst you have there.

Thats because you're an idiot.

So, the secret's out. Basically, Templar will be assisting alongside the rest of the taskforce, and we'll likely be focusing our efforts on one location that we would best be able to assist with while TERF command plugs the holes in Thessia's security. We could be gone for as long as three months before being rotated out. Optimistically though, we could be out sooner, depending how swiftly the naval forces locate the pirates and smugglers.

Its also a big opportunity for Templar. Everything we've done so far has been isolated to the Local Cluster, mainly the Citadel and Earth. We do well with this, we'll get some goodwill, better reputation, and have a better chance at lending a hand elsewhere in the galaxy.

Or not. Either way, its a problem that needs solving, but we we are certainly not occupying the planet, Ms. I can guarantee you of that.
